What is Sumpah Pemuda?

In English we may say The Youth Pledge.

Why do they celebrate it?

 Indonesia is an archipelagic country. We have thousand islands and in every island we made a group such as Jong Java (from Jawa), Jong Soematranen Bond (from Sumatra), Jong Ambon (from Ambon Maluku), etc. Each island has its own languange so we can conclude that Indonesia has thousand languages.

How did it happen?

It was really hard cause we're separated group by group. Then young Indonesian nationalists made a congress to unite all the group. First congress was in 1926, then they continued in October 28th 1928.

What was the pledge?

Firstly
We the sons and daughters of Indonesia, acknowledge one motherland, Indonesia.
Secondly
We the sons and daughters of Indonesia, acknowledge one nation, the nation of Indonesia.
Thirdly
We the sons and daughters of Indonesia, respect the language of unity, Indonesian.
