Cumhuriyet Bayramınız Mübarek Olsun, Türkiye!

Today Google is also celebrating the Republic Day of Turkey (Türkiye Cumhuriyet bayramı).

On October 29, 1923, the Turkish parliament proclaimed the establishment of the Republic of Turkey. The first president is Mustafa Kemal and was later named Atatürk (father of Turks). He was selected by unanimous vote.

Mustafa Kemal Atatürk embarked on a wide-ranging set of reforms in the political, economic and cultural aspects of Turkish society. These reforms have left a lasting legacy of which the peoples of Turkish heritage are proud: the conversion of the newly founded Republic into today’s modern, democratic and secular Turkish state.

Cumhuriyet Bayramı starts from 13:00 on 28th afternoon till 29th October. That means no class from 28th October afternoon till 1st November, yeay!

The Youth Pledge, SUMPAH PEMUDA

What is Sumpah Pemuda?

In English we may say The Youth Pledge.

Why do they celebrate it?

Indonesia is an archipelagic country. We have thousand islands and in every island we made a group such as Jong Java (from Jawa), Jong Soematranen Bond (from Sumatra), Jong Ambon (from Ambon Maluku), etc. Each island has its own languange so we can conclude that Indonesia has thousand languages.

How did it happen?

It was really hard cause we're separated group by group. Then young Indonesian nationalists made a congress to unite all the group. First congress was in 1926, then they continued in October 28th 1928.

What was the pledge?

Firstly
We the sons and daughters of Indonesia, acknowledge one motherland, Indonesia.
Secondly
We the sons and daughters of Indonesia, acknowledge one nation, the nation of Indonesia.
Thirdly
We the sons and daughters of Indonesia, respect the language of unity, Indonesian.

How to Master Your Reading Habit?

Why 30 days?

Islam has a holy month called Ramadan. Ramadan (رمضان‎ ; Ramaḍān also transliterated Ramazan, Ramzan, Ramadhan, or Ramathan) is the 9th month of the Islamic calendar, and is observed by Muslims worldwide as a month of fasting or shaum. Muslims fasting from fajr till maghrib everyday in a month. At the end of the month, they starting a new behavior to automatically doing it.

In the beginning it seems hard but if you doing it routinely in 30 days soon it'll be easier.

Talking about habit, reading book is also a good habit. In my previous post I've explained the advantages of reading book.

But I don't like to read a book..

Actually you can start from everything you want, read everything you could read. Comics or magazine, it's up to you. Make it simple and easier. :)

E-book vs Printed Book

book

EBook or electronic book is a digital book that can be read through a computer, tablet, or mobile devices. There are so many eBook format such as EPUB, MOBI, DJAVU, AZW, EXE, PDF. I'd prefer use EPUB cause it's easier and fit to your screen. Futhermore so many devices such as Apple’s iBooks, Barnes & Noble’s Nook, Adobe Digital Editions, and even for Android support epub files.

Printed books also has some physical format. Hardcover book, paperback, mass market paperback. For quality and long lasting use, hardcover is the best one, but for price paperback is cheaper.

In this inforgraphic below I've explained the advantages between eBook and printed book.

There are also pro contras among them. Some eBooks had pirated so we can easily get free ebooks. Good for us cause we are students, we don't have enough money to pay all the books we want. In the other hand, for writer and publishing house is bad. They don't get any profit so in the future they might be closing and couldn't publish any books again.

Some people say we should restrict printed books, cause to print a book they use a paper from tree. So if we want to save the ecology we shouldn't use the paper. The more we buy the printed book the more they cut down the tree.

So, which is preferred now?
